Power Point Draft 2

After my first tow reading I have learned many methods that will make a power point presentation not just attractive but rich in the information that I need to convey. I learned that text has to be limited, and more accurate towards what I want my audience to learn. Now I do understand though that this is still a work in progress as there is much more to come as we immerse ourselves in this world of technology.

Ringing chimes (chapter 4)

The author of the book gave us a great example of presentation to a group of audience. As he explains first we need to get all the attention and them make a presentation that will not just be heard by will impact the learner. Now that we live in a fast pace world we need to make our point across as entertaining as possible and in a short amount of time. Like the Velcro we need to make sure our information will stick to the learner.

I do believe in most of this philosophy, especially because I teach kindergarten level. Not only do my children need to be entertained, but their attention span is way shorted then the older children. There has to be many transitions to keep them focused and learning the material as we move from point A to point B. Though do not give me wrong these children are capable of storing and learning more material then we think, especially if it is taught in a way that attracts their attention.

They snooze you lose (chapter 1)

On this chapter the author talks about all the proper ways of utilizing Power Point presentations. There are many ways in which we are not taking advantage of the usage of this program. He explains we fill them up with bullets and text makes it unattractive to the human eyes. In the chapter he gives us suggestions that can make or break a presentation such as colors text quantities and orientation of  the text. He also gives us concrete examples in which we can see the difference that we can make if we take the right direction when making another Power Point Presentation. We also need to take in consideration the equipment that you will have available as well as the audience for whom you are presenting. This will make your job easier since you will know the pros and cons that you have to face as you present.

After reading the chapter I did realize how much damage I was making to my Power Point Presentations. Not only were my presentations boring, but they were useless at the end since I was not getting my point across to my audience. This is a great eye opener chapter that I will keep as close to me as I can every time I make a new Power Point Presentation.

Power point first draft

While working on this Power Point I started thinking about all the times that I have used resources and not given credit to any of the authors. I do admit that many times  have not stopped and think about who is it that crated this work and how can I acknowledged them. As  teachers we are always on the go and could careless of who made it as long as it is useful for our children. Now I understand that it  is not the correct way of utilizing all the amazing information that we can find on the web. We most thank those people who made those creations by letting every body know who they are and how much they helped us.
